Plan your workouts into your schedule… don’t just fit them in!
One of the things I find most effective about working out is scheduling it into my calendar. I book it in and commit myself to it like any other appointment I set up. I’ve tried a lot of different days and times to find what works best for me.
I’ve tried going after work – going at 7:00 or 8:00. This worked except it’s all I did after work. There was no time for family and friends at night and I do enjoy social time with my friends and family. And I do have a bad habit of letting work get in the way of my personal time, so sometimes I would work until 6:00. This left no time to eat before getting home, which made working out at 7:00 or 8:00 hard. I really find it hard to function on an empty stomach.
These are all really good excuses for me to miss working out, but not really good reasons. When you really want something, you can find a way to make it work.
So, I tried working out early in the morning before going to work. This is what really appealed to me when I joined The Motion Room. I loved the Re-Energizer Bootcamp right away – it starts early enough that I can do the Bootcamp, get home quickly to shower and get ready for work, and get there on time.
I really like the online system where you can do your own bookings to plan your workout. The system reminds me when I’ve done a booking so I can’t forget. There is also a penalty system that charges you if you miss an appointment. I think it’s great – it really keeps me going because I don’t like paying for something I don’t get!
So, I’ve found the system that works best for me: I go three days a week at 6:00 AM and at least once on the weekend.
I have a workout schedule and a nutrition schedule. It takes a lot of discipline. My friend says, “you are really committed”. And all I can say to that is “yes, I am!”.
It’s been a lot of trial and error, but I think I finally have it figured out the best system for me!
