Busy, Busy, Busy Mike Fanning

November has been a very challenging month for me. I, officially, had too much on my plate. I know that this happens to everyone every once in a while and November was my turn. I kept my fitness and diet routine but as my month was difficult it was difficult to maintain my fitness routine. I am looking forward to moving ahead and getting back on track.

I started a marching band at my school this year. In a way I opened Pandora’s box. We had over 120 kids come out and participate. I wasn’t expecting that many kids to be interested! It’s totally awesome but a little over whelming. Our school’s drum line, dance crew and marching band performed in 9 Santa Claus parades around Southern Ontario. The kids had an amazing time and they represented our school very well. For me it meant that I haven’t had a day off since November 4th until November 25th. Many of the Saturdays were 12-13 hour days. Throw into the mix, parent teacher interviews, a day of drum line sessions for 8th graders and additional performances for our drum line. I am turning down gigs for our drum line, as we are too busy! Here is a picture of them on the parade route

Mike Fanning Fun Fact! My wife and I have a 2-½ month old at home. His name is Michael and he is, for the most part, an easy to deal with baby. Babies, as those who have or had had some know, are a handful. My wife has been totally awesome is covering for her husband who has been away for 12-13 hours a day for the past few weekends.

I am the visual caption head for a drum corps called the Oregon Crusaders. They are based out of Portland, Oregon. This means I get to go to Portland and teach one weekend a month. One of these weekends happened in November. Have I thanked my wife yet for me being away? Here is a little video of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRpnY-016mA

Keeping my fitness routine through all this was difficult. I came across a couple of quotes that helped me get through it:

“I’m not going to tell you that it going to be easy but I will tell you is it’s going to be worth it!”

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”

“Go the extra mile. It’s never very crowded there.”
